They’re looking at your house, even if you’re not there
Selling a home is a 24-hour-a-day job. Your home is selling itself even if you’re not there.
Here’s an example: You and your wife are off at work. The kids are at school. Your house is empty, except for your two excitable Schnauzers. A couple looking to move into your community drives by and sees the “For Sale” sign in your front lawn.
Now, what if that couple parks, walks up your front walk to get a closer look at your home and then hears a cacophony of barking from inside? It might not be fair, but it’s a turnoff. Many buyers when they think of pets – especially if they don’t have cats or dogs of their own – immediately picture a house covered with animal hair. They remember homes they’ve been in that have reeked of dog or cat.
And they leave your front walk with those negative images now firmly attached to your property. You, the owner, have no idea this even happened.
The point is that potential customers are looking at your house all the time, even if no official showings or open houses are taking place. Keep noisy dogs in the back half of the house, keep the lawn mowed, sweep leaves and snow away from the front walk and pick up any newspapers. If you’ve already moved from the house and can’t attend to it on a regular basis, hire someone to keep the property looking neat.
Remember, you never know when that perfect buyer is going to stroll up your front walk.
