The biggest challenge when selling a home? Your pets
You love your dog. We all love our dogs.
But I don’t necessarily love your dog.
And that’s the problem pet owners face when trying to sell their homes. Buyers don’t love your dog or cat. In fact, they may think your pet stinks. And that could scuttle any chance you have of selling them your home.
Most real estate agents tell me they’d prefer if pet owners boarded their pets or shipped them to relatives during the home-selling process. Now, considering that it can take months to move a home, that’s not necessarily feasible.
The next best thing? Make sure your pet is nowhere to be found when showings of your home are scheduled. This means that you shouldn’t store your pooch in the basement when sellers are touring your home. It also means you should stow the cat and dog food out of sight. Trust me, it doesn’t add to your home’s ambience.
It’s not easy to sell a home under the best of conditions in today’s market. It’s even more of a challenge to do so when a dog’s barking in the backyard at your potential buyers.
