General Project Plan as Amended February 14, 2007
I first saw the World Trade Center in April 1996. It was my first visit to New York City. At that time, I was more excited to see the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, 1 Times Square and the FAO Schwarz toy shop…thanks to the magic of TV. The World Trade Center did not really leave a lasting impression to me. In fact, the only buildings new to me that time which made a lasting impression were the Flatiron building; because of its triangular shape and the Trump Tower building; because it’s so gold in color.
The only time that I really took notice of the World Trade Center was last September 11, 2001. I was at home when a friend sent me a text message to watch the attack in New York City live on TV.
After that tragic day, I just realized that it was truly one of New York City’s icons. Every shirt, photo frame and souvenir I have of New York City had the Two Towers of the World Trade Center on it.
I went back last June 2002, almost a year after the tragic incident. When the World Trade Center towers were there I did not bother to take any photos, but when I came to see it after 9/11 I took several photos of "Ground Zero". It was a very moving experience to personally see the site.
Maybe, next time I visit New York City I’ll be able to see the rebuilt World Trade Center site. May the new development be a reminder for everyone not only of the lives lost, but also of rebirth and healing. Life is very fragile. Tragedy is equal opportunity. May 9/11 be a day of world peace and inner peace too.
