Green homes and a flat market in 2008?
The Baltimore Sun on Jan. 6 took out its crystal ball and asked several local real estate experts their predictions for 2008. Here’s what Andrea Siegel’s story, which you can read in its entirety here, had to say about this still new year:
First, some bad news. The paper’s experts predicted that housing prices will continue to fall, and that the bottom of the residential real estate market won’t hit until sometime after 2008. Bad news, yes, but certainly not surprising.
Secondly, and this one did surprise me a bit: Homeowners will be willing to spend big money for environmentally friendly “green” features. An official with the Baltimore chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council said that homeowners will pay up to $5,000 to “green” their homes.
Finally, and this one is a bit surprising, too, considering the state of the housing market: Demand will increase for high-tech amenities. Homeowners will look for ultra-quiet gargabe disposals, dual-temperature beverage centers that have a colder side for soda and a warmer side for wine, massaging bubble jets in tubs and mirrors with built-in vanishing television screens.
Like I said, it’s an interesting story. Who ever knew that over-cooled wine (or, I suppose, under-cooled soda) was such a big problem?
