Even Trump not immune to real estate slump
Trying to sell your house and finding few takers? Have you already lopped $10,000, $20,000 or more off your initial asking price?
Well, at least you’re not alone. Donald Trump isn’t having much luck selling his home in Palm Beach, Fla., either.
Of course, Trump’s home, Maison de L’Amitie’, is now listed at about $100 million. So maybe Trump’s situation isn’t exactly like yours.
But Matt Woolsey, a writer with Forbes, does make an interesting point in this story. Trump’s troubles selling his pricey home mirror the struggles many sellers are having in moving their own residences.
A little more than two years ago, Trump put his home on the market for $125 million. At the time, the real estate boom was still going strong. In March of this year, though, Trump knocked $25 million off the price tag. It’s the same thing many sellers, albeit at a much more modest level, are doing.
So next time you think you have nothing in common with Trump — besides, maybe, bad hair and a garish sense of style — think again: When it comes to today’s struggling housing market, all sellers are having the same troubles.
