Apartment rents on the rise
Generally, when the residential housing market struggles, the apartment industry thrives.
That seems to be the case right now.
Reis, a real estate research firm, said that the average apartment rent across the country rose 1.1 percent in the second quarter of this year to $994 a month.
As more people either lose their homes to foreclosure or decide to delay purchasing a house until the real estate slump ends, expect to see apartment rents rising across the country.

This is also true for houses, not just apartments.
