A housing project in trouble

by Dan on June 1st, 2008

We’ve all read about the struggles of the U.S. housing market. Sometimes, it takes a specific example, though, to show in just how much of a mess the U.S. housing market is.

Kristen Moulton, writing in The Salt Lake Tribune, highlights the problems of the Ogden River housing project in Ogden, Utah. You can read the story here. Basically, Ogden River was supposed to include high-density housing, shops, entertainment venues and restaurants.

But for a year, older homes snatched by the city for the project have sat boarded-up, inviting thieves and scavengers to the area. Residents living near the boarded-up homes fear for their safety.

The project is languishing, like so many other housing proposals now that the residential boom has turned into a bust. When will the Ogden River project become a reality? Who knows.
