The typical homebuyer surveyed during the period from July 2006 to June 2007 was 39 years old, boasted a yearly income of $74,000 and purchased a home costing $215,000. Buyers searched an average of eight weeks and typically visited 10 homes before purchasing their new residence.

But if agents really wanted to help each other, they should swap tales of their mistakes. When I talk to “regular people” about real estate agents I rarely hear about the good things. People are far more likely to share with me the horror stories of disinterested agents or of those who never seemed to listen to their concerns.

Risky business — apartment owners skip the insurance

Apartments.com, a Web site that helps renters find apartments across the country, reported that 58 percent of respondents to its recent survey said they did not have renters insurance. At the same time, more than 70 percent of respondents who didn’t have this insurance said that they believed carrying renters insurance would improve their peace of mind.

The Homelessness Research Institute released some disturbing news earlier this week: Military veterans represent more than 25 percent of the U.S. homeless population. This is especially shocking considering that veterans only make up 11 percent of the civilian adult population.
